What the provider is paid

In brief
A strategy provider is paid by the followers, through fees that the provider sets inside caps printed on cTrader's fees page, read on 6 November 2026. This page lays out the three fees, the dates on which they are taken, what the platform keeps, and one month of arithmetic on made-up figures. It names no rate of any real strategy.
Three fees, in any combination
A provider can charge nothing, or any mix of a performance fee, a management fee and a volume fee. A fee can be changed only after the strategy has been stopped and no investor is copying it, and a new fee applies only when an investor restarts. The investor sees the strategy's fees on the Start copying button before agreeing, and this site did not read that button.
The three fees and their printed caps
The fees are set by the provider within these caps and are visible on the Start copying button before copying. Source: help.ctrader.com/ctrader-copy/fees-calculation, read on 6 November 2026.
| Fee | Charged on | Cap printed |
|---|---|---|
| Performance | The investor's net profit under the high-water mark model | 40% |
| Management | The investor's equity, per year, accrued daily | 10% |
| Volume | Each million of volume copied, per side | USD 10 |
What each fee follows
The performance fee follows net profit, measured with a high-water mark: it applies to profit above the highest value previously reached, as the platform's page describes the model. The management fee follows equity and accrues daily whether or not the strategy makes money. The volume fee follows activity: it is charged per million of volume copied, on both sides of a position, and it is not charged for deposits or withdrawals. The three fees therefore pay a provider for different things, and a reader reading a strategy's fees is reading three different incentives.
When fees are charged
The fees page lists one regular date and three events. Source: help.ctrader.com/ctrader-copy/fees-calculation, and help.ctrader.com/ctrader-copy/investing-in-strategies for the withdrawal wording, read on 6 November 2026.
| Moment | What the pages say |
|---|---|
| The 1st of each month | All fees, whatever their type, are charged to the copy-trading account; the payout to the provider follows at once. |
| The provider stops the strategy | All investors stop copying, open positions are closed and unrealised fees are charged after closing. |
| The investor stops copying | Positions are closed and the fees due are charged; the Stop copying window shows an approximate amount first. |
| The investor removes funds | The fees page says all fees are charged at once and in full; the page on investing says part of the unrealised fees is realised in proportion. The two pages are worded differently. |
The disagreement between two help pages
On what happens to fees when an investor removes funds, one help page says all fees are charged at once and in full, and another says that a certain amount of unrealised fees is realised in proportion to the amount withdrawn and displayed at the bottom of the Remove funds window. This site does not decide between them. A reader who plans to remove part of the money can read the figure that window shows before confirming, as the page says.
A month of fees on invented numbers
Invented figures to show the arithmetic, not a strategy: USD 2,000 allocated; performance fee 20%, management fee 4%, volume fee USD 6 per million; net profit USD 300; one lot of EURUSD quoted at 1.10 copied once and closed. The formulas are the help page's.
| Item | Arithmetic | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Performance fee | 20% of USD 300 | USD 60.00 |
| Management fee, one year | 4% of USD 2,000 | USD 80.00 |
| Management fee, one day | 80 divided by 365 | USD 0.22 |
| Management fee, 30 days | 0.2192 times 30 | USD 6.58 |
| Volume fee, one lot, both sides | 1.10 x 100,000 / 1,000,000 x 6 x 2 | USD 1.32 |
Reading the arithmetic
On the invented figures the month's cost is a performance fee of USD 60.00 if the strategy made USD 300 of net profit, plus management accruing at USD 0.22 a day, plus USD 1.32 of volume fee for one lot copied and closed. The management line is a cost even in a month with no profit; the performance line exists only with a profit above the previous high. The numbers are chosen for easy arithmetic and are not a guide to what any strategy charges.
The platform's share of the provider's fees
From 4 July 2026 the platform takes 30% of what the provider earns in fees; the help page says this adds no charge for investors. Arithmetic on the help page's own example, plus a second line on the invented figures above. Source: help.ctrader.com/ctrader-copy/fees-calculation, read on 6 November 2026.
| Case | Provider's fees | Platform's 30% | Provider receives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Help page example (performance 25%, volume USD 5 per million) | USD 30 | USD 9 | USD 21 |
| Invented figures above (performance fee and volume fee) | USD 61.32 | USD 18.40 | USD 42.92 |
What the platform's share is and is not
The commission is taken from the provider's fees. The help page says it is deducted automatically and adds no extra charge for investors. For the follower the practical content is that the fees shown on the button are what the follower pays, and that the platform's share comes out of the provider's side of that sum.
The fees page also says the fees paid to the provider are converted automatically to the provider's account currency, and that the broker reimburses the provider for realised fees at once.
What the pages do not price
The fees above are the platform's. The help pages do not state the broker's other charges on a copied trade, such as spreads, commissions on trades or financing for positions held overnight, and they print no figure for conversion between currencies. A copy account therefore has costs that this page cannot put a number on. The broker's terms are where they sit.
